Explosion Rocks Puerto Rico

October 23, 2009

SAN JUAN, PR-- At least two oil refinery workers were injured in an explosion in San Juan Thursday night. Firefighters were still fighting the resulting blaze the next morning. The explosion occurred in the Catano/Bayamon area, at a refinery owned by Caribbean Petroleum, Inc.. Early reports said at least eleven of the refinery’s forty oil tanks were set ablaze by the fire.

Citizens reported feeling the explosion throughout the San Juan Metropolitan area, where a number of property damage claims have been reported by vehicle and homeowners. Matthews & Associates attorneys are highly experienced in the field of oil refinery explosions. Attorneys David P. Matthews and Lizy Santiago previously litigated Puerto Rico’s last large explosion case, in Rio Piedras, when a gas line owned by San Juan Gas (a subsidiary of the now defunct Enron) exploded, causing numerous deaths and countless injuries.
